Hello everyone,

I urgently need a trace/log file from a Volkswagen (ideally a Golf V, Touran, or Passat) for analysis.
CAN infotainment system with a data rate of 100 kBit/s, featuring an original Webasto Thermo Top V.

The following CAN IDs should appear in the trace: 3E5h, DLC 6, period 200ms, and 427, DLC 6, period 500ms.

Your help is needed. Because I still need a vehicle with the appropriate equipment and a functioning heating system.

P.S. With the appropriate tracing information, I hope to be able to conclude or clarify the topic of auxiliary heating and the 'black box' for controlling an analog auxiliary heater here in the forum.

Thank you very much...

Regards, SeedMan.

Hi Dennis,

I'm going to try to attach my hacking device to the bus this weekend.
I just need to install one more Sub-D connector.
I'll run a trace on my SH.

Best regards,
Markus.

That would be very kind of you, as it would allow me to build and test a residual bus simulation.

Upon successful completion of my project, I would, of course, inform all those who assisted me about the outcome.

I imagine it's something like this... Start the Trace, then use the remote to start the Webasto, and ideally, let the Trace run for a few minutes.

It would also be interesting to see the 'run-down' period in the trace, meaning that the auxiliary heater goes into its after-run mode, and the trace essentially records the shut-down process.

The focus is on CAN IDs 3E5h and 427h, both of which should theoretically appear in your data icon_wink.gif.

With this information, I should be able to emulate a virtual auxiliary heater. Thus, many questions would be clarified here in the forum.

Thank you in advance, Markus, and as I said, I will report on my test results.

Best regards, Dennis.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks to the weather and my free time, I now have the traces for you.
There are two of them.
One with an instant heating button and one with a remote control.
I had set the filter on the Hacker from 3E5 to 427.
Therefore, only the SH (likely referring to a specific system or component) and the Climatronic are visible.
The traces each start from the beginning and extend beyond the settling time.
Occasionally, periods of silence could be observed on the bus.

I hope you can make something of this.
Unfortunately, I don't have the necessary materials to permanently install the SUB-D connector.
Therefore, another...
Please trace a little bit again.
Luckily, I have the premium FSE (presumably a fuse box) located under a seat where it's relatively easy to access.

Best regards,
Markus.

Thank you very much, Markus.

I think you've already helped me a lot, and I can figure out the rest on my own.
If it works, I will give you feedback with all the information.

Okay, so I went to the trouble of soldering three sub-D sockets with original CAN-bus wires in parallel to the pins on the red connector at the gateway.

Once and never again! That was a real pain in the neck, I'm telling you. Unfortunately, I skipped the CAN infotainment system. 'Furthermore, it lacks a built-in auxiliary heating system.'

Therefore, thank you again for your efforts.

I will get back to you by the end of next week at the latest.

P.S. I'm currently taking my VW-Audi service technician certification exam, so I'll only be online sporadically.

I'll get back to you.

Best regards, Dennis.

I had the same problem with my GT back then.
No log from a car with a license plate starting with 'SH'.
Things are a little easier now.

Don't stress.
If you find anything out, just let me know icon_smile.gif.

Good luck with the exam!

Best regards,
Markus.
