Hi everyone,

Through my professional experience, I have already gained some information about the CAN data bus. However, since I haven't worked with it recently, I'm a bit rusty. I hope you won't mind if I don't understand everything right away icon_wink.gif.

Regarding my issue:

In a Smart 450 without ESP, and therefore WITHOUT a steering angle sensor, we have installed a steering wheel from the Smart Roadster that DOES have a steering angle sensor. I would like to tap into the signal from this steering angle sensor and feed it into a control unit from PEAK (http://www.peak-system.com/PCAN-MIO.227.0.html)).

My problem is that I first need to measure the signal from the steering angle sensor and then link it to the control unit.
Therefore, my question is whether anyone could possibly explain to me how to measure the CAN signal of the steering angle sensor and then connect it to the control unit.

Of course, I would first need to inquire about the pin configuration from the smart home dealer.

I would really appreciate your help.

Sincerely,

fireblader88

First, you need to check whether the sensor transmits data cyclically or waits for a transmission request from the ESP.

If the sensor is sending messages cyclically, and you don't have any other participants on the bus, you need to terminate the bus (with 2 x 60 Ohm resistors), your control unit needs to actively participate in the communication (by sending an acknowledge), and it needs to be properly configured (bus speed, NM, etc.).

Then you should be able to receive the messages.
