I've been looking for something like this forum for a while!
I work as a network specialist and am involved in the administration of all kinds of systems.
"In my private time, I've been involved in the IT security field for quite some time. I spend a lot of time trying to understand various systems, and especially analyzing their communication. I also build my own interfaces to improve systems, find alternative ways to use them, or, in other words, to hack them."

My first experiences with the CAN bus were about two years ago, with my first car, a 1999 Volkswagen Golf 4.
I built a simple interface using optocouplers, experimented with VCDS, did a lot of sniffing, and tried to make sense of the data.

Unfortunately, due to lack of time, I didn't get very far, and the Golf then required more of my technical skills. After rebuilding the transmission and making other modifications, I ended up trading the Golf for a 2009 BMW 1 Series.

Everything seems to work differently here, and I've encountered many features that appear to be "BMW-specific" or proprietary.
Meanwhile, I've acquired a wireless interface that uses the STN1170 chip, and I need to figure out what capabilities this interface offers first.
