Hey everyone, what do I need to do to use a CAN interface in a Golf 2? I have a speed pulse signal that goes towards the radio, is that enough? So, can I rig something up there? Does anyone have any ideas?
Technically, I'm not completely inept, but neither is the guru .
My Golf has an NZ engine and the new ZE transmission.
Best regards and thank you for your help.

Hello anutrof.
Ich kann deine frage nichgt ganz verstehen.
Was genau willst du machen???
Sure, here's the translation:
'lg' is a German abbreviation that stands for 'liebe Grüße,' which means 'best regards' or 'warm greetings.' It's commonly used in emails, letters, and other forms of communication to express affection or goodwill.

Great post, spam³.
Hello anutrof.

Okay, sorry, I'm going to sort out my thoughts again and explain it very clearly .
Okay, I've installed a mini PC with a touchscreen in my car. Now, I'd like to integrate a navigation system into the mini PC. I'm used to how Becker navigation systems work, as they use two speed signals (GPS and a speedometer signal) to continue navigation in case of a GPS signal failure (e.g., in a tunnel). Since Cpos can utilize such signals (the speedometer signal), and this is supposedly done via a CAN-BUS (or have I misunderstood?), my question is: the Golf 2, as far as I know, doesn't have a CAN-BUS or a corresponding interface. So, can I still use this CAN-BUS, since I can obtain an electrical signal from the speedometer (which used to control the Becker), and can I retrofit this CAN-BUS as needed?
Is it clearer now?

nur mal so zu kurz info, und mal extrem grob erklärt, da du scheinbar gar nicht weist was ein canbus ist.
A CAN bus is a digital bus that allows data to be transmitted relatively reliably using only two wires.
In a car, it is used, for example, to make many sensor readings and switch positions available to multiple devices. For example, the speed signal, which is needed by the engine control unit, the speedometer, the ABS, the navigation system, the climate control system, etc., is transmitted via this CAN bus instead of requiring numerous wires. Another example: the speedometer makes various readings available on the bus, so that other devices that need the same value don't have to have a separate cable connected to it.
So, now please describe in detail why you want to retrofit a CAN bus into a Golf 2....It's used, for example, to make many sensor readings and switch settings available on multiple devices. For example, the speed signal that the engine control unit, the speedometer, the ABS, the navigation system, and the climate control system need. Instead of running 'x' wires, this can be done via the CAN bus or another similar system. For example, the speedometer makes various sensor readings available, so that instead of running a cable for each other device that needs the same value, it's available on the bus.
So, now describe in detail why you want to retrofit a CAN bus into a Golf 2.Okay, here's the translation:

also ich denke du willst deinem navi über CAN sagen, wie schnell das Auto fährt?
D'It's definitely possible. The question is, how much are you willing to spend for it?
Analog signals need to be converted and then digitized, and then output in the correct format on the CAN bus.
I think this is too complex for you, as it seems you're not very familiar with the subject matter.
Best regards.
Regarding joeausro's comment...
There have already been so many questions from people who are trying to force things that aren't meant to be.'n.'Analog signals need to be converted, then digitized, and finally output in the correct format on the CAN bus.

Hallo, es gibt fertige Adapter, die aus analogen Signalen CAN Bus Signale machen, beispielsweiße für VW, welche mit RCD300 kompatibel sind (das entspricht VW Golf 5 CAN Bus).
DThese adapters are quite expensive. For example, the adapter with the model number RTA 033.100-0. Ask an ACR dealer about them. Although they are expensive, they work perfectly.fgThese adapters are quite expensive. For example, the adapter with the model number RTA 033.100-0. Ask an ACR dealer about them. Ja dann bestell nen Passensden.
You mentioned at the beginning that you wanted to use CAN (Controller Area Network) in your Golf 2, but you didn't specify what for.
jetzt sprichst du von nem Golf 5.
Beim 5er ist fast alles mit CAn verbunden..
I think that if someone builds or develops exactly what you need, it will certainly cost more than the price of ready-made adapters. So, if there are any ready-made adapters that you can use, take them.

Yes, then order a suitable one.
You mentioned at the beginning that you wanted to use CAN bus in your Golf 2, but you didn't specify what for.
Now you're talking about a Golf 5.
Almost everything in the 5-series is connected to the CAN bus.
I think that if someone builds or develops exactly what you need for you, it will certainly exceed the price of ready-made adapters. So, if there are any adapters that you can use, take them.
The adapter RTA 033.100-0 converts analog signals into VW CAN TP 1.6 signals. This means you can connect radios that require a Golf 5 CAN bus, such as RCD200, RCD300, RCD500, etc., to a vehicle without a CAN bus, e.g., a Golf 2. The data, such as speed, is well-known from the Golf 5 (including in this forum), so you can easily read it out using a PC connected to this adapter via CAN-USB.
