Hello,

I drive an Audi A4, model year 2007, and currently have the original navigation system (RNS-E) installed.
With the older RNS-E system, there was a way, albeit a roundabout one, to change the speed limit setting in the diagnostic menu to 250 km/h.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work anymore with the new version of the RNS-E.

There are several modules that are supposed to implement this function.
I'm just wondering what these modules do.

In my opinion, the modules are simply sending a speed value of 0 km/h on the infotainment bus.
Am I understanding this correctly? Are the modules simply overriding the vehicle's original signal? Or are they acting as a gateway?

Does this type of unlocking have any other side effects besides the navigation system not working properly?

Best regards, Stefan.

The modules act as a gateway, meaning that only the relevant speed signal is set to zero. In some cases, the reverse gear or parking brake is also engaged.

If you're lucky, a different ID will be used for navigation, in which case the navigation will continue to work. Alternatively, you could make the unlock function disableable, so that you can navigate again if needed.

There are no other side effects.

Regards,
Andi.

Hello Andi,

Thank you for the response.
Unfortunately, it appears that the 2010 RNS-E system only receives speed information via a single ID.
That means the navigation system probably won't function properly anymore.

In an Audi forum, however, I read that the device should still navigate well even if it's coded to A3.
I'll try that out soon.

There seems to be a VIM hack out there, but no one wants to reveal the knowledge.

Hello,

Okay, with the RNS-E, it's really quite simple.
You need a US software version 0080, which needs to be installed, followed by the installation of a 'Loading.kwi' firmware hack. You can find plenty of information in the various online forums.

Then, using the VAG software, channel 5 for the control unit can be changed to 250, and then the latest firmware can be installed – and that's it.

I enjoyed the TV feature in my Audi TTS (2008-2011), which I've since sold. It didn't require any additional modules and didn't interfere with the navigation system – it was just perfect.

Okay, that only works with the older RNS-E system.

That's no longer possible with the 2010 model.

The issue with SW0800 has been known for years; it's nothing new.
