Opel has 3 different CAN bus types in every new vehicle accessible via the 16-pin OBD port.
500 kbps: CAN-H on pin 6, CAN-L on pin 14, for engine control unit (ECU), TCM transmission, ABS/TC/ESP, electronic damping system, and power steering.
95.2 kbps data transmission on pin 3 (CAN-H) and pin 11 (CAN-L) for all displays (TID/BID/GID), radio systems, CD players, and automatic climate control systems.
33.33 kbps, single-wire connection on pin 1 for AT6 control unit, airbag system, instrument cluster, body control module, PEPS (Passive Entry and Start), tire pressure monitoring system, parking assist system.

All CAN buses are connected via gateways. However, diagnostics must always be performed on the corresponding bus.
A problem is the single-wire bus on pin 1. There are very few expensive, professional interfaces that support this, such as those from companies like I+ME and Actia, and perhaps Fuchs in the future.

Best regards, radix.

I just bought an Opel Meriva, manufactured in 2005 (first registration date: June 2005). Is the CAN-bus system structured the same way in this model? Are the same connector pins used?

Regards,
CanCat.

Hello CanCat,
The pin configuration on the OBD connector should be the same!
I have a Corsa C (manufactured in 2006), and it's the same!

Best regards, ///M

Hi IIIM,

Okay, what immediately comes to mind are the data displayed on the information screen (which would be outputted), such as radio stations, outside temperature, etc., and things like boost pressure, engine speed, instantaneous fuel consumption (I'd probably have to calculate that somehow, let's see), mileage, and brightness (specifically, the sensor values from the light sensor above the rearview mirror to automatically dim the display at night).

Best regards, Mark.

Also Radiosender müsstest du auch noch über den Infotaiment Bus bekommen. die Lichtwerte könntest du über die vorhandene Regelung auch bekommt (ist bei mir zumindest so).

WeWhat kind of vehicle do you have?

Astra H 1.9 CDTI, manufactured in 2008.

Is there perhaps a list somewhere of the CAN IDs that Opel uses?

Hi,
I'm currently having a problem with my CAN bus. I drive an Opel Vectra C from 2008, and here's what's happening:

Ich habe letztens einen Einbauplatz für meine Endstufe gesucht, dabei hatt ich mein Kennwod DNX-9260BT laufen, auf einmal ist das Kenwood ausgegangen, mal nachgeschaut(Sicherungen) nix alles heile, Radio raus, Can-Adapter, ISO-Stecker, etc. kontrolliert, alles gut.
Removed the control panel from the radio (which is removable on this model, allowing the entire TFT screen to be detached), and I saw that the red status LED was blinking, so there's power. I then used a multimeter and confirmed that everything is present (power, ground, ignition, etc.), but the radio remains dark and silent.

I took out my original CD30 MP from the garage, connected it, and it worked perfectly. I drove to ACR-FFM and tested the Kenwood radio they had on display; it worked flawlessly. I also bought a new CAN-bus adapter to ISO hoping that was the issue.

No luck, it still doesn't work. I even borrowed a Zenec ZE-NC5010 for testing, and it didn't work either. What's going on here?

The original unit works, and there's power, ground, etc., at the ISO connector, but the 'aftermarket' radios don't turn on. What could be the reason?

Please post any ideas or suggestions you might have. Could it be a faulty CAN control module that controls the multimedia functions? But if so, why does the original unit work? And why are power, ground, and ignition coming through correctly at the ISO connector?

It would be great if someone could help me out.
Best regards,
Jörg.I took my original CD30 MP out of the garage, plugged it in, and it worked perfectly. I drove to the ACR-FFM event and tested a Kenwood radio at their demo station; it worked flawlessly there. Then, I bought a new CAN-bus adapter to ISO hoping that would solve the problem.

No luck, it still doesn't work. I even borrowed a Zenec ZE-NC5010 to test, and surprisingly, that one also doesn't turn on. What's going on here?

The original unit works, and there's power, ground, and ignition at the ISO connector, but the aftermarket radios don't power on. Why is that?

Please share any ideas or suggestions you might have. Could it be a faulty CAN control unit that manages the multimedia functions? But if that's the case, why does the original unit work? And why are power, ground, and ignition reaching the ISO connector without issues?

It would be great if someone could help me figure this out.
Best regards,
Jö'Damn, still not working. I also borrowed a Zenec ZE-NC5010 to test, and guess what? It doesn't work either. What's going on here???

The original head unit works fine, and there's power, ground, etc., at the ISO connector. But these 'aftermarket radios' aren't turning on. What could be the problem???

Please post any ideas or suggestions. Could it be a faulty CAN control module that controls the multimedia functions? But if that were the case, why would the original head unit work? And why are power, ground, and ignition plus all reaching the ISO connector without issue?'

Hi Bachwatz.
I think there's something wrong with your radio or control panel. Everything else seems to be working fine, and even the original radio or other radios work properly, so it's quite likely that the problem lies within that area.
Da es ein uni-Radio ist wird das auch ohnehin nichts mit dem CANbus zu tun haben.
Sure, here's the translation:

'Best regards.'
Patrick.

Hello everyone,

I would like to be able to read not only the speed and RPM, but also the mileage during the ride.
I have checked all three CAN buses at the diagnostic connector for messages related to the mileage.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it. Do I need to tap into the CAN bus somewhere else? I drive a Zafira B (2009).

Greetings.

I'm not an Opel expert, but:
With other manufacturers, the current mileage is not transmitted, but only distance pulses. The mileage is then calculated in the same way as before by the speedometer (and, for obvious reasons, also by the engine control unit, among others).
It would be different if you asked about the speedometer after the mileage question, but that would then be a diagnostic inquiry, and not simply eavesdropping.

Best regards,
Ingo

Thank you, Ingo, for the answer.

I'm specifically interested in the ability to listen along during the ride. Everything else is still too advanced for me (at this point).
In my opinion, the mileage is stored in the engine control unit (ECU) and is read by the speedometer via the CAN bus. There appears to be a filter or gateway between the diagnostic connector and the CAN bus that filters out certain messages.
In messages 0x300 and 0x410, there are likely 'cyclic counters' (0..65536) that track the distance traveled since the engine started. I haven't figured out anything else yet.

Greetings.

Primarily, diagnosis isn't something you can easily do just by listening and guessing – and information about anything that goes beyond the (manufacturer-independent) OBD2 standard is very limited.

As I mentioned, I'm not an expert on Opel cars. What I described is common in vehicles from the Volkswagen Group (VAG).
If you have the option to reset any potential errors:
What does the speedometer display as the mileage when the engine control unit is disconnected?

Quote:
It is likely that there is a filter or gateway interposed between the diagnostic connector and the CAN bus, which apparently filters out messages.

Yes, while it is technically possible to simply connect the diagnostic connector to the drive CAN bus, very few (if any) manufacturers do this nowadays.
At VAG (Volkswagen Group), the diagnostic connector is typically practically dead without any stimulation. You should connect the CAN interface directly to the respective bus.

At VAG, it's only 11 bits (and of course, this applies to other messages as well), but 16 bits would also be possible for the concept I described.

Best regards,
Ingo
