Hey everyone,

I installed a parking heater (a generic brand) in my Q5.
I connected the cable that indicates the heating is turned on to the comfort control unit.
With the auxiliary heater activated, the interior fan now also runs, thanks to VCDS.

Unfortunately, this doesn't set the temperature to "Hi" (maximum), and the fan also only runs at the last setting used.

Okay, here's the translation:

"So, after turning on the auxiliary heater:"
+ adjust the blower to a medium speed.
+ set the temperature to maximum (Hi).
+ optionally, direct the airflow towards the windshield.

Is there anything ready-made for that already?

I assume that I need this CAN-USB interface.

Which board should I use? Where can I purchase it?

I can program, but I have no experience with CAN bus systems.

How do I get started?

Best regards,

Ronny.

Hello Ronny,

Yes, with the linked device, you can log data and also send signals on the various CAN buses. Whether your approach of sending CAN messages is promising remains to be seen. First, you should figure out how the original auxiliary heater communicates with the climate control system and how it sets parameters.

Best regards, Rainer.

Why shouldn't that be the right approach?

Currently, I get in the car and set the heater to the highest setting and the fan to level 5.

I would like to log these data and transfer them to a small board.
When the heating system sends the ON signal, the data is transmitted to the CAN bus.

Which board would you recommend to me?

Can an Arduino be used for this, or is there something specifically designed for vehicles?

And what if the button presses on the Climatronic display don't appear on any CAN bus at all, because they are processed directly by the control unit? That's what I meant... icon_idea.gif
