Hello,
What would happen if I used a servo-hydraulic...?
Lenkung vom Polo 9N, die ein Steuergerät mit CAN-Anbindung hat an den Antriebs-CAN des Golf 5 hängen würde?
DThe Polo probably doesn't have the different buses connected through a gateway like the Golf does. However, the 'mother of all buses' in the vehicle is the powertrain (engine) CAN bus.
Actually, I'm only interested in the possibility of reading and writing data. Then I could do that via the diagnostic connector of the Golf 5.

Hello.
I don't quite understand your question.
When it comes to coding, there might be some issues.
Perhaps you should first check what the Volkswagen parts catalog says about whether that part is compatible.

Hi,
Well, what is the purpose of having that ET catalog there...?
Is the CAN bus protocol (specifically, the 'Motor-CAN') used in the Volkswagen Golf 5 compatible with the CAN bus protocol used in the Volkswagen Polo 9N?
What would happen if a CAN bus participant (in this case, the steering system) were connected to a bus (Golf 5) that it was never intended to be part of? Would I damage any control units, or could it potentially work due to VW's like-parts strategy (specifically, the same-protocol strategy )?
Can I access, code, and potentially control functions like the cornering light via VAG-Com and the diagnostic connector, possibly through the CAN gateway (assuming a 30-byte onboard computer)?
Best regards, Mario.

Hi.
What I meant by 'parts catalog' is that you can often use parts from a Volkswagen Golf 5, such as the steering system (including its control unit), in a SEAT Ibiza or Leon because they share a similar base platform.
Based on the protocol, there's a risk of misinterpretations because one often has more capabilities than the other.
However, to take something from a Polo and put it into a Golf, and then also add something that didn't exist before... I don't think that will work very well.
I don't know if the protocols are identical, but I also don't believe they are 100% the same.

Hi, p.ostrich.
Thank you for your reply. It looks like I'll probably end up trying it out.
The project I'm currently working on has been ongoing since 2006.
Perhaps there's someone out there who has some 'CAN-depth' experience and can offer some insights beforehand.
Thank you and best regards, Mario.

Hello,
kann keiner mehr etwas dazu beitragen?
I now have the steering system, including the control unit, and it's connected to terminals 30/15 and ground. I've connected the CAN lines to a Golf 5 gateway and tried to access the control unit. This is all part of an experimental setup. I can access the gateway, I've activated the power steering assist there, and I've tried to address the control unit using address word 44... but it's not working.
Okay, I've checked a few more SSP documents and realized that the 9N Polo also has a Comfort CAN bus... I must have missed that. There's definitely a gateway present, but it's integrated into the body control module (BCM). Could this be the problem? According to the SSP documentation, there's a so-called corporate bus used from model year 2000 onwards, which is divided into a powertrain CAN with 500 kBit/s and a comfort/infotainment CAN with 100 kBit/s. A gateway is needed to exchange data between these two buses. But is the gateway for the G5 or Polo 9N different in its structure? If not, then I might have a steering control unit (SCU) defect. I'm currently at a loss. I'll try to find a 9N body control module so I can access the steering system from there... Let's see. If anyone has any information, please let me know. I appreciate any input.
Best regards, Mario.

Servus.
Finde Dein Projekt superinteressant.
If you need any more information about the 9N or G5 models, just let me know. Complete CAN message catalogs are available.
Unfortunately, you've made a poor choice with the 9N... It has the gateway located in the ECU (Engine Control Unit) and not in the BNSG (Body Control Module).
Ggf. könne wir auch mal telefonieren.
What's the actual fuel consumption of a TFSI engine in a Golf 2?
I know someone who installs 90hp TDI engines from Golf 4 into Golf 2, and they achieve fuel consumptions of almost 3 liters per 100km.
That's very interesting...
Let me know what you think..That's very interesting.
Let me know.Let me know.

Could you please send me the notification catalog for the G5?

For the archives:
The electro-hydraulic power steering system from the Polo 9N/Fabia can be used in the Polo 6NF, but it requires ESP (steering angle sensor) to function correctly.
Let's code the CAN gateway and get it running! Then we can also run diagnostics.
It might work in the Golf 4 and 5 models...
