Model building, microcontrollers, and of course, my car, an Audi A6 4F (specifically its electrical system).
I first came into contact with CAN-Bus around 2003... At that time, I replaced the factory radio in my Audi A3 8L with a different one... Well, after that, the steering wheel remote control stopped working... And adapters didn't exist back then.
So, I built a custom interface from the CAN-bus and installed it on the Sony Commander. Since the top lines of the display were also dead, I also created an external temperature display.
Back then, the CAN bus was quite straightforward and easy to understand and debug. I have to admit... My A6 is driving me crazy.
RESPECT to everyone who understands this and can use it to their advantage.

My search for information, specifically regarding data on diesel particulate filters, led me here.
"I just want to build a simple circuit (I'm not worried about the PCB or the program). It should trigger a gong in the instrument cluster when the DPF starts regenerating, and then again when it's finished. This would be a signal for me to say, 'STOP, don't turn off the engine yet... drive another lap around the block.' I'm driving way too much short distances in this diesel, and I almost ruined the DPF. Ideally, a feature that displays 'kilometers driven since regeneration' and 'oil ash volume' would be amazing."

Hallo Mirco,

willkommen! Mich hat bereits jemand nach so einem Teil welches Du Dir bauen magst gefragt, aber als jemand der noch niemals DPF Probleme hatte, konnte ich den Bedarf einfach nicht nachvollziehen.

Das Problem: Es werden je nach Motor unterschiedliche Diagnoseprotokolle und Meßwertblöcke/Meßwerte verwendet, daher ist es einfach, das für EIN Fahrzeug zu bauen, aber schwierig für alle.

Wenn die Lösung einfach sein soll: Gaspedalstellung und Abgastemperatur vor Lader auswerten.

Aber ich will Dich nicht abhalten, wenn es nur für Dein Auto sein soll, dürfte der Aufwand überschaubar sein.

Yes... As long as you drive mostly long distances (which is what a diesel engine is designed for), you won't have any problems.
Wenn du viel Kurzstrecke fährst ist er extrem schnell dicht ... Dazu kommt, dass die Regeneration Zeit braucht ... Wenn du dann währenddessen aus machst ... bricht er ab und startet das nächste mal erst wenn der Motor richtig warm ist... Dann stellst du ihn wieder mittendrin ab.... U.S.W. ....
Until the soot buildup is so high that regeneration is no longer possible - for fire safety reasons... If you're lucky (like I was), an emergency regeneration might still work... If not, the part needs to be removed and either cleaned (400€) or replaced (800€).
Therefore, my idea is about the notification.
