Hi, I'm Patrick, 25 years old, from North Rhine-Westphalia.
I came across this forum while searching for information about the drive-by-wire system for my project.
I'm currently in the process of converting my Scirocco 1 to a 1.8T engine. The engine is an AGU due to the larger ports in the cylinder head, but it will be running with the ME 7.5 engine control unit from an Audi S3 8L (BAM).
"That's not a problem, I can get it running. However, the plan is to install a DQ250 DSG transmission from a fifth-generation GTI."
My plan was to install a CAN bus system in my Scirocco, using components from a VW Golf Mk5: the 5th generation gateway, the steering wheel electronics (including the steering wheel with paddle shifters), the speedometer (which I would modify visually), the gear selector module, and the Motronic engine control unit from a BAM engine.
As far as I've been able to find out, the Golf 4/A3 8L generation uses TP 1.6, while the 5th generation uses TP 2.0.
Then I came across this thread:
https://www.canhack.de/en/viewtopic.php?t=2105
That would be the solution to my problem. Unfortunately, my knowledge isn't deep enough to understand how the transport protocol was changed in the engine control unit. Maybe someone here can help me with that.
Best regards, Patrick.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you in advance for the quick response. Vcds is available. Of course, nothing works here without a diagnosis. However, the Scirocco is still untouched, and I wanted to gather all the parts and consider how to proceed before everything is disassembled and it becomes impossible .
Currently, I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine, which will have its displacement increased to 2 liters, and I'm aiming for around 350 horsepower. So, there's quite a bit of work to be done there.
Yesterday, I connected the gateway on the powertrain CAN bus to the Motronic and powered everything up. While I could access the gateway via the diagnostic bus, I couldn't find the Motronic (I was using VAS at work and haven't tried it with VCDS yet). I also couldn't access the control unit via the L-line.
