OBD2 Diagnostics: Car Troubleshooting Guide

Hello everyone.

Although I don't think my car has a CAN interface, I still need your help.


I have a Sharan from 1997 with a diesel engine and I'm using the AGV 4000 to try and adjust my new instrument cluster, specifically the odometer reading. Since the new one is used, it shows a mileage of over 200,000 km, but mine is actually under 100,000 km. Unfortunately, I can only use VAG-COM if the mileage is below 100 km, and mine is far beyond that. So now I'm thinking there must be another software solution that allows me to do this via OBD II and the KKL protocol, which VW uses. However, I haven't been able to find anything yet.

Although this might not be the right forum for this, here are a few general pieces of information:
fals dein sharan schon mit blauen tacho ausgestatted ist wäre es über k-line möglich aber alle programme die es können brauchen ein kkl interface mit dongel(kopierschutz) da wirst du mit deinen agv 4000 nicht weiterkommen.

wiYou could actually do this yourself: build an adapter using a few resistors for serial EEPROMs and modify the KM manually (Google can help you with that).

Thank you for your reply, but I don't understand. I have the AVG 4000, which has KKL, so what does that have to do with the blue speedometer? What do you mean by that?

and I didn't find anything on Google, do you perhaps have a link for me?

'kkl' refers to 2 K-line connections and one L-line. A 'hardware' interface isn't concerned with the data being transmitted over these lines. To access the memory of your speedometer, you need software that communicates with the K-line. Software developers don't want their software easily copied, so they develop their own KKL interfaces with copy protection features. That's why cheaper devices like the AVG 4000 often don't work with them.
