Good day.
I'm new to this forum because I have a specific problem and I hope to find some answers here.

I have a BMW 320d E91.
It no longer has a temperature display. Neither for oil nor for coolant.
Now, however, clear sensors are installed for both. You can also read that out.
I'm looking for a simple circuit diagram that allows me to visually display the oil temperature from the CAN bus (diagnostic connector) on a small display.

Unfortunately, I have no experience in the field of automotive bus technology.

Does anyone know of a simple and inexpensive controller that allows for this?

Or even a kit or something similar.

Thank you all in advance for your time.

"I'm currently trying to do the same thing. You can, of course, use an Arduino with a CAN shield, or the AT90CAN128, for example. I'm able to read the data, but I'm not sure yet how to get it into the instrument cluster. I hope this question can be answered." However, this applies to the W211 E55 AMG, as well as all W211 models because they use the same instrument cluster.

Maybe Postmann can say something about that?

Since I'm assuming you have no prior experience with microcontroller programming, I would recommend starting with an Arduino.

Break down your project into smaller parts, starting with the simpler ones and progressing to the more complex ones (e.g., controlling an LCD with Arduino -> reading CAN data with Arduino -> displaying CAN data on the display -> etc.).

To start with, it's important to stay organized so you can measure your progress with small achievements. Don't expect immediate success when you start with the world of microcontrollers; most people begin with the simple and fun task of making LEDs blink.

Which of the two of us are you referring to (the OP or me)? If you're referring to me, I've been able to read the data so far. Not all the data yet, but a good amount.

My question was how to practically create a new menu within the AI system so that the data currently displayed can then appear there during the drive.

I actually meant the original poster, since he started this thread with his question.

Well, if it had been clear, I wouldn't have asked icon_smile.gif.

Do you perhaps have an answer for me here, or in my own thread?
