Best hardware: What's right for you?

I am completely new to this forum and I need your help.

I would like to listen to the drivetrain of an Audi.

Now, there are a few more questions I have.

What device would be best for my project?
I found this, but it looks like it might only work through OBD.

What should one pay attention to when choosing a good device?

What data transmission speed is used on the CAN bus for the powertrain in Audi vehicles? (500 kbit/s or 100 kbit/s)

Does every Audi have the same CAN bus system?
Or can the data transfer rate vary from one model to another?

Is this a low-speed CAN or a high-speed CAN?

Hallo Nicole,

das CAN-Interface hat einen OBD2-Stecker, weil man bei Audi (und den anderen VAG-Marken) zum Anschluss an intere CAN-Busse eh im Auto "anzapfen" muss. D.h. in diesen Fällen muss man sich eh etwas basteln. Daher macht ein anderer Stecker wenig Sinn, denn so kann man es für andere Fahrzeuge direkt an der OBD2-Buchse einstecken.

Für da wo man basteln muss, ist die beigelegte OBD2-Buchse samt dem Kabel mit den SUB-D9 Steckern (auch für CIA Anschluss).

CAN-Antrieb bei Audi hat meines Wissens immer 500kBit/s / 11Bit CAN-IDs.

500kBit/s gibt es nur als High-Speed-CAN:

From cheap to expensive.

Now, of course, the question arises: where exactly do these devices differ?

Is the only difference due to the software of the devices?
Or is it about the speed (bitrate) of the transmission?

I think to myself that it's better to buy a very good device right away than to have to buy two of them later .

Es kommt natürlich immer auf den Zweck an, wofür man es braucht.
Der Softwareumfang unterscheidet sich je nach Ausführung erheblich, die Frage ist, ob man es braucht.
