Hello everyone!

Bei gebroken contacts or defective sensors will cause...A calculation error entry has been set in the memory. For older control units that are accessed via K-Line, reading error codes is not a difficult task. Unfortunately, it currently fails more often with newer versions that are read or diagnosed via CAN.

Now, to the actual question:
FüI am very grateful for any suggestion!

Hello Tom,

Generally, you can connect your diagnostic system directly to the transmission control unit (TCU) via the CAN bus, and it should work.
A gateway is not required for your specific application.

Hello Rainer!

First of all, thank you for the quick response. But are you sure? I've already tried that, but diagnostic tools like those from Gutmann, VCDS, or Xentry report an error indicating they cannot initialize the CAN gateway. Do I need to additionally terminate the wiring with 120 Ohm resistors at both ends?

Best regards, Tom.

Hi,

Simply check if a termination is already in place; if not, connect a 120-ohm resistor.
You're pressing the wrong button in the diagnostic system; instead, simply use VCDS and directly access the transmission control unit using the control module address 02.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Rainer!

Thank you for your efforts and help. I will try it again using a direct connection and let you know the results!

Best regards, Tom.

Based on my experience, this only works with "older" vehicles.
Last year, we had a new E-Class (W213), and even a simple OBD access wasn't possible, let alone diagnostics using a Bosch KTS or similar device.
Mercedes diagnosis.

No, the same applies to the 213 model; the diagnostic process is standardized (OBD), and both the 213 and all other Mercedes models use UDS.
