Hello! - This is my first post - I apologize for writing it in English.

I purchased the CANUSB interface.

Today, I had some time to install everything on my laptop and check that it all works with my new vehicle, which arrived this week.

I used the USB to serial software, and the device appears on COM4.

Nothing seems to be working, so I have some questions:

1) What default serial settings should I use?
2) What default settings should I use within the Canhack software?

My car is a VW T5 Multivan, and it has plenty of CAN buses that I can experiment with! I'm starting by using the OBDII connector and cable.

Sure, here is the translation:

'Any help in English on getting the basic settings would be very welcome.'

Thanks, Tony.

Hi Tony,

First of all, sorry I can't help you BECAUSE: I have exactly the same problem icon_wink.gif.

Today, I tested the device for the first time with a VW Golf V (which uses all functions via CAN) and connected it to the OBD diagnostic port. The COM4 port appeared on my notebook, and I tested several speeds, with the engine running, and so on... but there were no logs generated at all.

When I click 'connect', it displays 'connected' (but it always says it is connected, even when the COM port appears in the device manager).
The green light on the CAN connector blinks for a second and then turns off.
I clicked 'connect' and then 'start' in the CAN-Hacker application, but nothing happens.

Is this something we have to do, or will it work if we don't?

Regards,
Andi.

Hi Andi,

Your description is identical to my setup and results!

The MK V also features a very similar CAN bus architecture, so any assistance would be beneficial to both of us.

Tony.

When I connect my adapter directly to the CAN cables at the radio (infotainment bus), everything works fine.

You may need to perform an initialization sequence according to ISO 15765-4 to retrieve data from your OBD connector.
OBD data transfer is normally done in a request-response manner, and the OBD CAN interface is separate from all other in-car CAN bus systems.
Attempt to retrieve data from the OBD CAN gateway; refer to ISO15765 for further details.
