Hello, I have a 2002 Bora with MFD1, DSP, and a large instrument cluster, which also means it has a CAN bus. I would like to replace the MFD with an RNS 510 and also install the multifunction steering wheel from a Golf 6.

Has anyone looked into this topic?

Do the Bora (also known as Golf 4) and the Golf 6 use the same CAN bus system?

I'm not really familiar with the topic of CAN bus, and I hope someone can help me. icon_biggrin.gif

The answer is surprisingly simple this time: It doesn't fit. A Golf IV (if it has CAN) uses TP (Transport Protocol) 1.6, while a Golf 6 uses TP 2.0.
While there are adapters available between TP1.6 and TP 2.0 (from VW, Seat, Skoda, and third-party suppliers), typically used to operate a TP2.0 "radio"/navigation system in TP 1.6 vehicles, your specific combination (especially with the "new" steering wheel and the "old" DSP) is unlikely to be supported by anyone.

Okay, so I could probably do without the MFL (Multi-Function Lever)... but how does the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) also communicate via CAN bus? I have the following connectors: blue, green, and yellow mini-ISO connectors, a black ISO connector, and a Siemens connector.

Yes.
The DSP is also connected to the CAN bus.

They have also developed an adapter from TP1.6 to 2.0 (www.canshack.de).

How are you even going to make the RNS510 fit mechanically?

Greetings.
Jens.

Yes, I'm already in contact with Canshack, so electrically, it should already work icon_smile.gif.

Okay, if I planted it in the Bora, I'll post some photos.
I just need to get a icon_smile.gif 6th-generation Golf bezel and fit it in, and then install the side trim pieces on the climate control unit, and then it will be done }.

Well, I should have fitted it a while ago, but now the cover is still missing.
