I have been trying for days, unsuccessfully, to control the Smart ForTwo instrument cluster outside of the car.
I mainly want to activate the fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and odometer to ensure they function properly.
Converted Smart car with electric drive, featuring a restored LCD display that was previously 'dead' due to the lack of an engine control unit.
to use for meaningful advertisements. (However, I currently only have a complete...) Hey, not the car available.
Does the display or the entire speedometer need to be initialized in some way?
When I apply 12V, the speedometer goes to 0 and the odometer reading is displayed, otherwise there is no reaction.

Update 04.02.2011:
I've made a little progress.
'The ignition power supply (terminal 15) was missing, and now the speedometer occasionally flashes.'
and even various... CAN frames are...
After power-on, 510 1 7F 245 times every 25ms.
and 515 7 FE 07 00 00 00 0C FF
The connection seems to be working, at least, although I can't do anything with it yet.

Am I even working with the correct IDs?
100 hours Wheel rotations Speed
120h Trust ABS
320h Engine temperature. Battery indicator, motor check, oil pressure.
440h: Turn signal, handbrake.
A2Ah Outdoor temperature. Fuel level?
C00h: Tank level?
(These are taken from the description of an experiment at a university of technology.)

I have programmed an energy meter for electric vehicles, etc., using an Atmega microcontroller.
The goal is to adapt the modified Smart, and the primary focus is to...
Display the remaining energy (SOC) on the fuel gauge. Walking display and temperature (controller) are...
For now, it's not entirely crucial, but it should be done 'alongside' everything else if the rest works out.
The ampere (possibly abbreviated as 'A'). (Performance) is what the former tachometer indicates. (It's just a stepper motor icon_wink.gif).

'I am currently generating the CAN commands using can tool and a Lawicel CAN232 interface.'
'since I would later be using pre-prepared CAN frames from a list via...'
serial interface of an Atmega 328 or something like that... I want to send data from.
(I intend to translate them as is, since there are only a few.)
Directly controlling a CAN controller exceeds my programming skills.
For now, just a little bit. Maybe later.
'It's working quite well with other CAN devices now, except for this one.'
I'm not a fan of smart dashboards yet.

Perhaps someone has experimented with the smart speedometer before.
and that made it react...?

Best regards,
Franz.

Hello,

How did you solve the issue with the speed display?
It would be helpful with a little help icon_smile.gif.

First, it would be helpful to know which specific Smart Fortwo model the combination is for, as there are different versions.
