Hello,
Unfortunately, I don't have much knowledge about CAN bus systems; I've only recently started learning about them. I have a problem and I hope to get help here, as this is where the experts are...
Okay, so I have a Golf 5, model year 2008, with the 'Can' version and a 2.0 engine. I upgraded to MFA+ / FIS, and it works great.
Okay, I've installed an older VW MCD navigation system (version C, manufactured in 2004, from a Golf IV or Passat 3BG). I've wired everything up, and it's working without any problems. Unfortunately, I'm not getting the display in the FIS (Multi-Function Instrument Display). I suspect that the CAN version of the radio (there's a CAN connector for communication with the FIS) is only 1.6 or 1.4. Has anyone here had experience with this? Do I have any chance of getting the arrow display to work? I'm using a Dietz ignition adapter to connect the ignition to the radio, and I've wired the rest 'analog,' including the GALA function.
The radio's comfort locking feature is working, so I don't have to re-enter the code after a power outage. However, the FIS (multifunction display) isn't working. The navigation system is coded into the car, and the second display in the radio is also coded. Unfortunately, I don't have VCDS yet, but I'm planning to purchase it.
Thank you in advance!

The Golf 5 uses TP2.0, while the Golf 4 uses TP1.6. The two protocols are not compatible. You hardly have a chance unless someone builds a gateway for you.

Thank you for the response. Can someone build such a gateway? 'Who could have done something like this? I'm otherwise really satisfied with the MCD navigation system...'
What could something like that cost? Please send me a quick message, either a direct message or an email.
Thank you!

Thank you again for the information. Unfortunately, the adapters work the other way around. Car TP 1.6, Radio TP 2.0.
My radio is TP 1.6 and my car is TP 2.0. That's a shame.
I think I'll have to get the RNS 300 after all, which is a shame.
Thank you very much nonetheless!
If anyone can produce an adapter/gateway, or knows where to find one, please let me know!
Thank you!

I have to admit that I haven't read everything in detail. Are you sure that it only works in one direction? If they were implemented correctly, they should be able to work in both directions.
Unfortunately, I absolutely don't have the time for that right now - but if I did, I would definitely look into the topic. You could try sending 'svenni' a private message. He can do that too...

Hey, great!
That's interesting; I hadn't thought about it going in both directions. I sent 'Svenni' a private message, let's see if he responds...
Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately, Svenni hasn't gotten back to me...
I will ask again in a new topic to see if anyone else knows about this.
