Hello everyone,

I want to read out the steering angle (or steering wheel angle) of a Mercedes B-Class (T 245) for a university project.

Can someone help me with this? Equipment of all kinds (CAN hardware, OBD hardware) is available.

I am grateful for any help!

Marc.

Hi,

I would tap into the CAN bus on the ABS/ESP system, turn the ignition on, and move the steering wheel.
Then, hide all CAN IDs that do not change during this process.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

First of all, thank you for your reply!

Do you have more detailed information about physical access?

Okay, ich bin bereit. Bitte gib mir den deutschen Text, den du übersetzt haben möchtest.
Where is the ESP control unit located?
Do you have a pinout diagram for the connector?

Regards,
Marc.

The ESP control unit is located in the engine compartment. To gain physical access to the engine CAN-C, you need to remove the lower trim panel on the A-pillar (passenger side). Beneath this panel, you will find a relatively thick cable harness.
Simply tap into the two icon_wink.gif green & green/white cables using wire connectors, and you're done.

PS: A tip: the message has a low ID, between 200 and 300.
