Well, that's quite clear.
I was trying to find out which control unit in this Audi contains the gateway functionality.
So far, I know...
- Gateway as a standalone device ("diagnostic interface") - e.g., Volkswagen Golf V.
- Gateway in a station wagon.
- Gateway in the vehicle's body control module (BCM).

Heating = auxiliary heating? Because, I assume the "normal" heating/climate control is still connected to the CAN comfort system.

And if the ABS is connected to the CAN system via the chassis module, does that mean that only the motor, gateway, and possibly the transmission are connected to the CAN bus for the powertrain?

Yes, I mean the auxiliary heater .
I can take a look sometime when I'm back at the computer in the workshop and see what else is available.

This is a bit older, but:
The auxiliary heater (we're talking about the type that burns fuel to generate heat) is ALWAYS connected to the vehicle's internal CAN bus.
For the Volkswagen passenger car fleet, the Comfort functions are controlled via the CAN bus. For the T5 and Touareg models, the interior functions (which include comfort and infotainment) are also controlled via a dedicated CAN bus.
The electric 'auxiliary heater' (PTC) can sometimes be connected to the powertrain's CAN bus, depending on the vehicle.

The reason for this is that the CAN bus lines of the auxiliary heater are almost freely accessible.
'If the vehicle's control unit uses a CAN bus for communication, it might be possible to use a specialized diagnostic tool to access and manipulate the system, potentially allowing someone to steal the car.'
