Hello everyone,

I want to generate the CAN signals 'ignition on' (Chrysler 000) and 'radio active' (Chrysler 416) for my Chrysler radio.
The intended vehicle does not have a compatible CAN bus (older Chrysler CCD bus).

Can you generate a verschandeln CAN binary sequence from standard UART signals (RS232) using an 82C250 chip that will be recognized by the radio? The signal only needs to go to the radio and not into the car, so there's nothing safety-critical involved.

Otherwise, I would have to buy an AVR501 for my AVR500 in order to program an Atmel microcontroller with CAN functionality.

I had read about this before (it was also a great suggestion) and I wanted to clarify the UART idea. Would RX, TX, and GND be directly connectable to the 82C250 without any additional protocol initially? - Well, maybe it's just the power of habit... icon_smile.gif

I now believe the reason is that the start bit of the UART cannot be removed (as indicated by the documentation for various 8-bit AVR controllers). This would likely make it difficult to assemble the CAN data bits in the desired format.

Feel free to share your results if you achieve anything interesting with an ISP interface and an MCP2515.

I'm going to try reading the MCP2515 documentation on the side, and I'll also buy an STK501 just in case.

Dein Artikel sieht ausgesprochen brauchbar aus. Ich habe bislang jedoch nur assembler auf die AVR's programmiert. Ich wollte bisher noch kein Geld für 'nen C-compiler ausgeben, weil ich nicht weiß, was da am besten ist - wird endlich mal Zeit dafür. HaDo you have any recommendations?

You don't need to buy a C compiler.
