Hello, I have an electric car and ordered the RKS+Can adapter. It has now arrived, but when I connected it, I'm getting an error message: "No response received, operation failed."
The car is a 2011 Think City.
A functional CAN bus is already in place, as I have battery monitoring software for the Zebra battery that is currently running.

Hello,

You have purchased an OBD-2 diagnostic system. OBD-2 is a diagnostic protocol for monitoring and diagnosing emission-related functions.
Therefore, it is understandable that "it doesn't work" when referring to an electric motor. icon_rolleyes.gif

Reading the engine speed might be possible, but that pretty much solves the problem.

What do you hope to achieve with your action?

If you want to analyze specific raw data, you need to determine the bitrate on the diagnostic CAN bus and then use a tool like KCANMonitor to see what is happening on the bus.

Best regards, Rainer.

I was hoping to be able to read out potential error messages, similar to those that occur in internal combustion engine vehicles, such as brake or airbag errors. Also, you mentioned in a post on an E-up forum that battery data shouldn't theoretically be a problem either.

Matthias.

If you ever read the vehicle's maintenance manual, you'll find everything – really everything – you need to know about the CAN bus system for that vehicle.

IDs, signals, etc.

The manual recommends Peak's CAN hardware, but it works with any CAN interface. You just need to receive the frames, interpret the signals, and that's essentially all there is to it.

Especially for CAN "beginners," this vehicle is a dream machine for practicing and experimenting icon_smile.gif.

As mentioned before, there are corresponding applications for the batteries, whether they are EVE Energy (formerly Enerdel) or Zebra Technology, that work with the Peak adapter. I also have an Arduino to read status signals from the battery, but I'm interested in all other messages like "brake," "airbag," etc. There is software for this, but it only runs on Windows XP, and no one has an adapter compatible with it.

Well, XP is really not state-of-the-art anymore, and it's unlikely that there's a ready-made program for the ThinkPad. As far as I know, production of that model stopped in 2013.

You can first check if you are able to establish a connection with the CAN bus. To do this, you can connect to either pin 14 (CAN L) and pin 6 (CAN H) at the OBD connector, or to pin 7 (CAN L) and pin 8 (CAN H) at the power control unit. If you are not receiving any frames, you should check the termination resistance. It should be 60 ohms at the OBD connector.

I'm receiving CAN signals from the Arduino, and the Zebra software is working perfectly.
