Harley Davidson CAN Bus: Installation & Troubleshooting

I'm new here and have been browsing for a few hours. I'm 50 years old, an electrician, and I'm interested in intercom systems and navigation devices for motorcycles. I have some experience with the BMW i-Bus system, specifically related to the radio.

Now I have an HD E-Glide with CAN bus. I'm having trouble reading out an interface module for the navigation system.

I'm using the CANopen USB adapter from ESD in Hanover, along with the CanReal and CAN OpenViewer software. When I set the transmission rate to 100 kbit/s, I can't find any modules. However, the CAN module doesn't show any errors. If I swap the CAN + and - connections or try different bit rates, I get an error message. I assume that the 100 kbit/s setting and the cable polarity are correct. I have terminated the cable with 120 ohms on both ends.

What other options do I have?

I may not know anything about the Harley or your hardware, but:
- If the CAN bus wasn't completely unused until now, but already had 2 or more ECUs connected, then it should already be terminated – meaning your 120 Ohm resistors would both be unnecessary.
- CANopen is built on top of CAN (ISO/OSI, please forgive me) and is intended for automation applications. I can't imagine Harley using something like that. Can you set your interface to a low level – meaning simply displaying messages with their ID and data payload?

I just bought a Lawicel USB adapter. I can't get it to work with can tool.

- Correctly installed according to the installation instructions, VCP driver loaded, COM5 is being used, CANUSB DLL driver installed, adapter found.

- The green and red LEDs only light up briefly when the USB port is plugged in, and then they go out.

- can tool not connecting (neither with COM5 nor Lawicel USB) in the settings.

What am I doing wrong?

I've made some progress. Now I need an adapter that converts an analog signal into a CAN signal.

The adapter only needs to transmit a CAN signal each time an analog signal is received. For example, the CAN signal should have the following parameters: ID: 1011, Length: 1, Data byte 1: 06.

What effort will it require?
