RKS+CAN GER 330 Won't Start: Troubleshooting Guide

"My RKS+CAN interface arrived today! I installed the software on my Windows 7 computer and it works perfectly. Then, I tried it on my XP laptop, but neither KCAN Monitor nor KODB2Check will start. When I try to open them, nothing happens; there are no error messages. The laptop is running XP Service Pack 3 with an Intel Pentium 1500Mhz processor and 480MB of RAM."

Has anyone ever experienced this problem before?

Hello David,

Your XP computer might be infected with a virus. Warning: XP has been "end-of-life" for quite some time now.

Are the files KOBD2Check.exe and KCANMonitor.exe located in the directory C:\Kaufmann\RKS+CAN-GER? What is the size of these files (please specify the exact number of bytes)?

Does the KCAN monitor require an internet connection during its initial startup? I connected the laptop to the internet, and now everything seems to be working fine even without an internet connection.

Sorry for all the beginner questions, but I have one more question ! Today, I connected my Passat 3C's combination instrument to the gateway using an interface, set the bitrate to 500000, and selected "Listen Only." As long as I don't start the vehicle, everything works fine, but as soon as I start it, the speedometer works normally for about 2 seconds, and then the entire combination instrument CAN bus fails . This happens even when I only have the interface connected without a laptop. Somewhere in this forum, I read that someone desoldered two resistors when using the interface alone }!

Hi,

Please connect only the CAN-High and CAN-Low lines first and see if it works (without an additional ground connection).
