Hi,

'Has anyone gained experience with how auxiliary heaters, such as the Webasto TTV, communicate via the CAN bus?' Unfortunately, I don't have a vehicle with a CAN bus, but I do have several Webasto TT-V units with a CAN interface. I would like to control the auxiliary heater via CAN from a PC and eventually create a control unit, initially as a simulator, and later as a standalone hardware device.

For simulation, I think you could use loopback devices under Linux. CAN can be treated as regular sockets.
'With serial protocols, I've always done it this way by using a loopback RS232 driver. It works well, and you can also easily capture all the data. Furthermore, you can initially simulate either communication end as a regular PC program, which is great for debugging.'
Has anyone ever successfully used a cheap USB CAN adapter with Linux? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you in advance. I would appreciate it if someone could give me some tips.

Best regards,
Manuel.

Hello,

I just bought the Tiny-Can, and I'm still in the experimentation phase to figure out what it's capable of. I'm not a Linux expert, but the website mentions a Linux API, which might be helpful to you.

Regards,
Snooky.

Hi everyone.

How far along are you with your plans?
I'm looking for a way to inform my Audi Eberspächer auxiliary heater, via the CAN bus, that the fuel tank is not empty.
I installed these in my Fabia 1 because the Audi was slightly deformed icon_wink.gif.
