Hello,
I am looking for a way to display my own short texts in the upper area of the FIS (instrument cluster) in my Audi A3 Sportback 8PA model 2011, using a Quadlock connector and a white FIS, controlled by a microcontroller.

The original radio was removed and replaced with an aftermarket unit, which means that station names and CD track information are no longer displayed on the FIS (driver information system), as far as I understand.

Diesen, nun 'freien' Platz wĂŒrde ich gerne fĂŒr eigene Texte nutzen, z.B. "Volume", "Balance" o. ÄBitte gib mir den deutschen Text, den du ĂŒbersetzt haben möchtest.

Are there readily available solutions for this that I can purchase, or where should I start?

The idea is to send the text data from the AVR microcontroller via UART to an adapter, which then displays it on the FIS (presumably a display or interface).

I program in Bascom, if that's important icon_smile.gif.

Thank you and best regards.
Gerhard.

Hallo Gerd,

The car doesn't have a radio, but it does have an Alpine CAN adapter connected, which displays text from Alpine radios on the FIS (multi-function display).
"When I leave the adapter plugged in and start logging, I see IDs 436 and 661. For IDs 363 and 365 (both from the FIS lines), spaces are output every 500ms because there is no radio connected."
When I write something into IDs 363 and 365 using can tool, it briefly appears in the FIS, but then it's overwritten by the spaces mentioned.

After disconnecting the Alpine adapter while the system is running, I can successfully send text messages to the FIS (Head-Up Display) until the next engine start.
So, the Alpine adapter "activates" the FIS, which is good as far as it goes.

I've tried all sorts of combinations of IDs from this forum to activate the FIS without an Alpine adapter, but unfortunately, it doesn't work.

The adapter sends data to IDs 436 (not 439!) and 661. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this behavior using can tool without the adapter.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Audi A3 8P model, 2012.

To create a logical ring, you need an OSEK network management system for the Audi 8P. IDs in the 400 range are used for network management. During the start of communication, these IDs form a logical group (cluster), and only devices with the corresponding network management IDs are accepted in the communication.

Thanks. I figured that out too, meanwhile.

The Alpine adapter registers with the ring using ID 436. Other IDs are 42B and 43A.
I'm currently in the process of programming an AT90CAN microcontroller that will completely replace the Alpine adapter.

I'm having trouble understanding how the ring structure works in the network.
Here is the trace when the device is turned on in the car, without [something].
Participating IDs = 42B, 436, and 43A.
Code:
42B 6 0B 02 C0 02 00 00
42B 6 0B 02 C0 02 00 00
42B 6 0B 02 C0 02 00 00
42B 6 0B 02 C0 02 00 00
42B 6 0B 02 C0 02 00 00
42B 6 0B 02 C0 02 00 00
43A 6 1A 02 80 00 00 00 -> 43A will in den Ring
42B 6 1A 01 00 00 00 00 -> ok 43A, willkommen im Ring
43A 6 0B 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 42B
42B 6 1A 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 43A
43A 6 0B 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 42B
42B 6 1A 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 43A
43A 6 0B 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 42B
436 6 16 02 80 00 00 00 -> 436 will in den Ring
42B 6 16 01 00 00 00 00 -> ok 436, willkommen im Ring
-- bis hierhin ok
436 6 0B 01 00 00 00 00 -> ?1? nÀchster nach mir ist 42B ?1?
43A 6 0B 02 00 00 00 00 -> ?2?
-- ab hier wieder ok
42B 6 16 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 436
436 6 1A 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 43A
43A 6 0B 01 00 00 00 00 -> nÀchster nach mir ist 42B
42B 6 16 01 00 00 00 00
436 6 1A 01 00 00 00 00
43A 6 0B 01 00 00 00 00

I understand everything up to the marker "bis hierhin ok".
First, only 42B is present, then 43A joins, and both announce who the next ID is in the ring.
After that, car number 436 registers for the event, and this is confirmed by car number 42B.

Okay, here are the questions:
?1?:
Why does 436 state that 42B is the next ID, instead of 43A?

?2?:
Warum meldet sich 43A mit der ID 42B wieder am Ring an? Oder was bedeutet die '00' als 2. Are you here?
Is there an '80' displayed when you register?

From this point onwards, the ring is functioning normally as expected, and all three IDs indicate which ID is next in the ring.
42B -> 436 -> 43A -> 42B, etc.

Can someone please answer these two questions for me?

Why does 436 state that 42B is the next ID, instead of 43A?

Because ID 436 is also part of a running ring, and the logical ring needs to be rebuilt, and because ID 436 only knows ID 42B so far, it indicates 42B as the successor.

Warum meldet sich 43A mit der ID 42B wieder am Ring an? Oder was bedeutet die '00' als 2. Are you here?

He's not registering again (he was already there); he was just skipped by ID 436.

I believe the specifications for OSEK/VDX network management describe it in detail.
