Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie and I have the following problem, and I hope you can help me. icon_smile.gif

The vehicle has an RNS-E with a CD changer installed, but no MFL (due to the sports steering wheel). There is also no possibility to install an MFL. I have now installed a Dension BT/FSE, which needs to be configured using the steering wheel buttons (Mode, Next/Prev). The adapter displays its menu on the central display, but I can't operate it icon_sad.gif.

Ideally, I would like to have a CAN simulator where I can connect a small keyboard or individual buttons and assign them specific CAN codes. Is there such a simple kit available, or what do I need to implement this? I've found many simulators, but none of them convert the desired signals (at least 'Mode' or 'Menu', 'Next', and 'Previous').

An alternative solution would be an interface from the notebook to the CAN bus, which would allow me to easily configure the Bluetooth interface using commands. I need to turn on the Bluetooth and activate audio streaming through the menu. After that, I could control the normal functions of the RNS-E without needing a fixed installation. What do I need in order to send those commands?

Thank you very much and best regards.
Rob.

Hello Rob,

With the RKS+CAN interface, you can already listen in and transmit data. The effort will likely be to figure out exactly which CAN messages need to be sent.

Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you, Rainer icon_smile.gif. I saw a list here that shows the corresponding messages for the steering wheel buttons.

Unfortunately, I've realized that I need a CAN simulator regardless, because the connected Bluetooth module is on the CAN bus and receives its button commands from there. If I only use the PC, I can configure the module, but I won't be able to use functions like 'Track +/-'.

Is there such a thing as a universal CAN simulator that can be programmed via an interface from a computer and then installed in a vehicle?

Yes, but that probably won't be cheaper than retrofitting the original control buttons.
