Hello everyone,

I want to install an Audi infotainment system from an Audi A4, manufactured in 2016 and using CAN 2.0, into an Audi A2, manufactured in 2004 and using CAN 1.6.

Has anyone ever done something like this before?

I'm now considering whether to buy a CAN bus adapter from Kufatec or another company to test if it's in the direction I need it for.

"Kufatec offers these modules to, for example, allow the use of a radio that operates with CAN 2.0 in an older T5 model with CAN 1.6... However, in various online forums, there are like-minded individuals who have concerns about these modules."
Well, they're not exactly the cheapest either...

Therefore, my question is...
With the RKS-CAN interface, I can probably read and analyze both sides separately.
Can the RKS-CAN also perform adjustments to the CAN data and speed?
I suspect not...
Is there a module that allows me to establish communication between the two systems? Is there a way to prevent the head unit in the A4 from making unnecessary queries? For example, preventing it from checking the status of the assistance systems?

Greetings from Berlin.

The CAN 1.6 likely only transmits data related to ignition and lighting, so it probably doesn't contain any truly useful information.
I once had a Sharan from a certain production year, and in that model, the speed signal was still available as an impulse input.

I'm planning to try something similar soon.
Install a Discover Pro unit from a Golf 7 into a Golf 5. Both have CAN 2.0, but different data rates.

I already have the Discover system running on my desk to log everything, but I also have a Golf 7 with the factory-installed Discover Pro for comparison.

The new infotainment systems require specific data to be present so that, for example, the component protection feature does not activate.
The only way to obtain this data is through the vehicle itself, which includes the infotainment system.
That works very well with the RKS-CAN system.

Hello.

I also got the Audi's infotainment system running on the table; that wasn't the difficult part...
It works with a gateway and also without one.
Since I can't implement the connection to terminal 15 on the table, the system will shut down after 30 minutes.

I don't think I need much information from the CAN bus either.

Terminal 15; lights, speed; possibly also central locking.

I believe the Golf 5 was available with both the 1.6 and 2.0 liter engines.
Over time, the gateway has changed, and the RNS 510 could also be used in the Golf 5.

The real question is how to set the baud rate so that it actually works...
Do you have any ideas about that yet?

The Golf 5 already used the CAN 2.0 standard from its market launch.
I also had a 2007 model with the RNS510, and the only difference compared to the earlier models with the MFD was the display protocol.

"For the Golf 5 project, I have a CAN adapter that I use to generate data sets, just like the Discover system. As I mentioned, you can use an existing vehicle configuration to log data, and then feed the recorded data back in via the RKS-CAN."

The baud rate is fixed at 500kb for all new systems (Volkswagen/Audi).

Here's the translation:

"Another difference is that the A4 doesn't have MOST technology. My A6 has the entire MMI system running on MOST."

Good morning.
In the new MIB2 systems, a MOST bus is not installed unless it includes a virtual cockpit, TV tuner, or a digital sound package (e.g., BOSE, Bang & Olufsen).

What kind of CAN adapter are you using for that?

Okay, then it's comparable to the Golf in its lowest trim level.

I actually develop control units for the marine network NMEA2000, which is a manufacturer-independent, plug-and-play CAN network.
I'm simply using a suitable development board because it already includes the power supply and USB connectivity.

What exactly is CAN 1.6 supposed to be? VW TP 1.6?
And what exactly from the 2016 Audi MMI system should also work in the A2? Including all the displays in the FIS (driver information system)? That's certainly going to be an interesting project. Keyword: BAP.

Well, it would be nice if the ignition and the lights were recognized.

It would also be great if the system could recognize wheel rotations to use the navigation system.
