Hello everyone,
Here I have a Bosch MRR radar sensor (MRRevo14F, part number 3Q0907561B) from a Passat B8. I only have the sensor itself, unfortunately not a Passat to connect it to, and no documentation. I would like to extract distance data from the sensor. He shouldn't be running on a car anymore, but rather as a "toy" on a computer.
The MRR has two CAN buses, both operating at 500 kbit, and they generate a large amount of data packets. However, none of them seem to change with the angle of incidence, as I would expect with a radar distance measurement.
I read somewhere that the LRR can enter a fault mode if it doesn't receive regular confirmation/configuration packets. It's probably the same with MRR, and I need to figure out what kind of responses it expects first.
Does anyone have information about the IDs used, or even a vehicle with MRR (presumably referring to a specific technology or feature) where they could listen to the engine CAN bus?

Hi,
I have been trying to map the two CAN buses.
MRR connector.
| Pin | Signal | Color | | 1 | GND | brown | | 2 | CAN_H | orange/blue (gray?) | | 3 | CAN_L | orange/brown | | 5 | CAN_H | orange/white | | 6 | CAN_L | orange/brown | | 8 | V+ | black/green |
So far, it also matches the pinout of the Bosch CAS-M. However, the CAN messages do not match.
Pin 2 and 3, and pin 5 and 6.
Does anyone know which CAN bus colors these refer to? I think the Motor-CAN cable should be orange/black?

Hello Sebastian,
I have an A4 B8 with an ACC sensor, and I can only advise you not to mess with it.
Before the ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) becomes active, Audi engineers implement multiple safety checks; for example, the setting for the desired following distance is transmitted twice.
The lever also has a contact for confirmation. And there's probably also component protection. For example, the "Fin" element is present on all the cans, which likely indicates it's for the control system.
Best regards,
Ulli

Here are some signals I found; there are probably some errors in them.

Hello,
I would also like to operate a radar system without having a car.
My ideas:
1) Industrial radar.
I can buy an industrial radar from Continental for just under 3000 EUR.
2) Passat Radar
I can buy a radar system from VW for 2000 EUR that is also compatible with my Passat B7.
3) 5Q0 907 561 K
You can find this new for €535.50 in the Golf, Polo, Leon, Toledo, Fabia, and Octavia models; used, it's even cheaper.
More ideas???
Option 3 is the most appealing in terms of price. I could also imagine feeding the radar with simulated vehicle CAN data.
But what about component protection?
A used car definitely has active component protection.
What about a new one?
As far as I know, the gateway distributes the component protection. Can I operate a new radar without a protective casing, as long as there is no gateway present?
Best regards,
CH

I haven't had a radar system from VW in my hands before, but I have had the LRR system from Mercedes. There are two versions of that product, one with CAN and one with FlexRay.
The CAN variant features an AR network management system, is passively activated, and, once "trained," provides object data. What I'm still missing is the interpretation of the data, which is likely a transport protocol.

What program did Ulli13 actually use? The data is already clearly stated there.

It looks like CANoe from Vector Informatik. The fact that this information is displayed is likely due to the fact that he has a corresponding database.
CANoe also cannot interpret the data without a corresponding database.

I just ordered a 3QF 907 561 D for 119 EUR (new) on **** .
This is a Bosch MRRevo14F radar sensor, compatible with ACC systems up to 160 km/h, and also up to 210 km/h.
It's still cheaper than my MRR1Plus models mentioned above.
Can the KCANMonitor be provided with information in plain text format?
I wanted to try it out, but then I realized that KCANMonitor probably doesn't work with my HEX-USB+CAN.

Hello,
KCANMonitor runs with the RKS+CAN interface, and the association of informational text with specific CAN IDs is planned, but only for the complete ID.
Best regards, Rainer.

Idea 1)
Simulate all CAN messages that the ACC sensor expects.
- Unfortunately, I don't have a suitable car to use as a source.
- What about component protection?
Idea 2)
Use distance values from diagnostic data.
- In my 2011 Passat with the chassis number 3AA 907 567, there are distance values displayed in the diagnostic system.
- My VCDS was too old for the new sensor, so I bought a VCDS HEX-V2.
- Unfortunately, I couldn't find a distance value in the diagnostic data (EV_ACCBOSCHVW416).
Does anyone know under which diagnostic code the "distance" value is typically found?
What other ACC sensors could I use that provide distance values in the diagnostic data? But please don't make it as expensive as the one I had in my Passat...

Hello Ulli13, how did you manage to decode the individual IDs, names, and comments into plain text?
Very interesting, greetings bigpapi.

He has a database.
Either created by the manufacturer or made by yourself.
