Database of all known IDs?

Hello everyone.

It's quite quiet here, probably because everyone is trying to decipher the meaning of IDs and hexadecimal data, either in the garage or at their desks. While reading through the individual topics, I've noticed that it's quite difficult to determine which manufacturer, model, year, or CAN bus a particular comment refers to. And that's when people easily start talking past each other.

How about we start building a database where we collect all known information? Or we could create a topic for each vehicle model, using the model name as the title. Other users with the same vehicle could then add their results.

Just a thought, but maybe we can bring a little life to this forum and encourage others to share a few small secrets.

I can't find anything about the ID and byte number for fuel level information anywhere on the internet; that can't be right .

Well, anyway, I have something else to say about the mileage:
65Dh 8 7E A4 1D 60 C8 B8 60 1A

1 + 2:
A4 1D = LSB MSB = 7588 km Total.


If we only use bytes 1 and 2 here, the maximum value would be just 65,535 km, which is a bit too low for a normal vehicle.
If you were to add the entire third byte, it would be 0x601D7E = 6,299,006, which is a bit too much. If you only take the lower 4 bits of the third byte, you have a total of 20 bits available, so the maximum value would be 1,048,575 km. That should be sufficient for the lifespan of a car engine. The calculated value then fits, because in this example, the four least significant bits of the third byte are equal to 0.


If anyone would be kind enough to share the identifier for the fuel level, I would be extremely grateful!

What's missing with this keyword is a concrete suggestion for the format of a database. It's not enough to just quickly post some settings. To populate a database, the administrator of the website would also need to be involved and extend the existing infrastructure (due to user management in PHP, etc.).

In turn, the administrator can only do this once there is a certain level of agreement on what information should be stored in the database.
And anyone who can add information to the database.
Every user or only specific users?

Here's a suggestion from me, off the top of my head. It doesn't necessarily have to be the perfect solution. I'm just starting to learn about this topic and don't understand much about CAN and what it involves yet.
Every user can add rows to this table in the database.
The following information should be stored and/or displayed via a view.
- Pointer to the user who inserted the line. The username will then be displayed in the view.
- Vehicle type including brand? (Without a vehicle type table, references to lines within a type table will include the type, brand, and group; question: how to differentiate between, for example, a 307CC and a 307SW or...)
- Year of construction (possibly a range).
- CAN bus area.
- Description of the data for a single signal.
- Comment on the following:
- Status (Is the person who made the entry certain, or does he/she want to question it? Options: 'not verified,' 'verified information,' 'invalid information,' etc.)
- The view includes a query against a table with boolean fields, where other users can indicate their opinions about each row. When displayed, the number of set bits for each row is counted, and the sum is shown.

Of course, one should be able to filter the data for output.
By corporation/brand/type and CAN bus area.

A request to all users.
Please show your interest in a database extension by either carefully considering how my proposal could be improved and then publishing your thoughts, or at the very least, expressing your agreement.
Because if the users show no interest, then the administrator/operator has no reason to implement such a feature. Ultimately, every expansion of the database, every web form, and every query involves a significant amount of work. If I had to expect that the results of this work would not be appreciated by the users, as an operator, I would seriously consider whether to do this work myself or outsource it.

In my case, it's measured in liters.
In the example above, a value of 0x0B would indicate 11 liters of fuel in the tank.
